Our History, Vision, and Philosophy
Hello and thank you for visiting our school website. We often introduce the school by pointing to a picture of our children and telling prospective parents that the reason we have a school is because we have four children. Two of our children are married, one is in college, and one is at Fideles with us. That ammounts to about 20 years worth of schools, homeschooling, teaching, and now founding and directing Fideles Christian School. Our story began simply with the belief that we were to raise our children to be disciples of our Lord and that we were as parents primarily responsible for that task. We also believed that they should have a quality competitive education and that it should be taught from a Christian worldview because we did not then and do not now believe there is an inherent conflict between a Christian worldview and a quality education. Over time, through our experience with school, homeschooling, and teaching, we came to an ever greater conviction of the value of direct parental time and involvement in the schooling of children. Finally, we became persuaded of the importance of utilizing the God-given talents and gifts of others with which He has equipped the body of believers in the church rather than relying soley on our own gifts and abilities to prepare our children for their callings and life's work. The result has been the school we have today.
However, these concepts were not simply born out of our own mind and experience. Almost simultaneously, many similar views to ours had already been recognized and put into practice by a group in Texas and other states in the Southeast who called themselves University Model Schools. There was one UMS school existing in Georgia when we encountered them, and as a national body, they had been developing successfully for about ten years. Much of their program coincided with our own thinking, confirmed our direction, and helped further shape our views and plans. At that point, we joined with the NAUMS organization (National Association of University Model Schools) and have developed since then in cooperation with their guidelines. Further, though we have based a large part of our educational program on ideas and philosophies normally associated with homeschool methods, we did desire to qualify for accreditation with the State of Georgia if we could do so without compromising our Christian worldview, curriculum, or the quality of our program. We were delighted to find that the Georgia Accrediting Commission could accredit us with the state under its provisions for non-traditional schools so that our graduates can apply to any college, public or private, with a transcript and diploma that has recognition equal to other public and private high schools. Through this commission, we achieved Accreditation with Quality -- the highest level of accreditation given by the GAC in our category. Since that time, we have graduated students who have been accepted to a variety of public and private colleges and universities of national stature both in and out of the state of Georgia which are now featured on our homepage.
